From November 15-17, 2024, Opsydia will take part in a unique event dedicated to the secondary market which encourages and advocates circularity, authentication and branding in the luxury goods economy. We are pleased to share more insights into this emerging ‘Pre-Loved Luxury’ platform that promises to change perceptions of second-hand goods in the fine jewellery, premium watches and accessories industries.
The debut Pre-Loved Luxury Show is organised by Swiss trade fair ReLuxury and international realtor Barnes, who share a commitment to circularity in luxury products and prestige goods. The Carrousel du Louvre in Paris will transform into a hub of innovative thinking, groundbreaking technology, sublime craftsmanship, fresh ideas, and discussion for three days in November, incorporating a series of in-person talks in which Opsydia is uniquely positioned to participate.

A Circular Approach to Sustainable Luxury
The core ethos of the Pre-Loved Luxury Show is enhancing the longevity of products by encouraging consumers to think differently and addressing the opportunities and challenges of the secondary market. ReLuxury has defined seven principles that underpin circularity: resell, repair, renovate, rehabilitate, reuse, recycle and reinvent. However, it also acknowledges that the luxury sector needs the support of innovative technology, anti-counterfeiting processes and traceability initiatives to achieve these aims. This is exactly why Opsydia is participating. Our mission to secure traceability, authenticity and brand in diamonds and precious gems aligns perfectly with the principles of this event.
According to Fabienne Lupo, the Founder and CEO of ReLuxury: “Circularity in the luxury sector is no mere trend; it’s an obligation. Because luxury, through its innate values – quality, durability, repairability, heritage – is starting to reinvent the life cycle of products. Together, we have the power to adopt a new way of consuming and envision a future in which luxury is synonymous with long-lasting, savoir-faire and excellence.”

Facts about the Second-Hand Luxury Market
As the headline partner of the Pre-Loved Luxury Show, eBay is well-placed to provide context about the growth of the luxury second-hand market and consumer demand for pre-loved goods. According to its data, 39% of all items of clothing, shoes and accessories sold on eBay worldwide in 2023 were second-hand, totalling 55 million items. In June 2024, global searches on eBay for ‘pre-loved luxury’ increased by more than 40% compared to June 2023. Also, in June 2024, eBay users worldwide searched for ‘vintage’ more than 1,000 times per minute on average. Now, its goal is to support industry events like ReLuxury that help to educate, improve and drive access to the circular economy on a global scale.
The Opsydia Approach to Pre-Loved Luxury
Luxury jewellery, diamonds and coloured gemstones are no strangers to the circular economy. These assets have been created, repurposed, reused and resold for centuries. Given their supremely hard and durable properties, diamonds are particularly well suited to re-setting and re-purposing.
Diamonds and precious gemstones have been passed down through families, sold on the secondary market by independent jewellers, or presented at auction. However, times have changed. New generations of consumers are increasingly turning to pre-loved luxury goods to align with their principles and their expectations of sustainability, traceability, and provenance.
Brands are determined to protect the authenticity and value of their goods on the secondary market, while consumers should be guided towards genuine and identifiable products they can believe in. The answer to this is building trust through physical proof, something tangible that luxury consumers can see with their own eyes. Since the inception of Opsydia, our ultra-precision laser technology has provided this physical ‘missing link’ in the form of Sub-Surface Nano ID inscriptions.
Our commitment to both brands and consumers is to create enduring value that remains with a diamond, precious coloured gemstone, piece of jewellery or premium timepiece throughout its lifespan. This is what has led us to the Pre-Loved Luxury Show.

Opsydia at the Pre-Loved Luxury Show 2024
Opsydia will exhibit alongside other innovative start-ups and enterprises that embody a future where luxury and the circular economy coexist in harmony. Attendees at the Carrousel du Louvre can find us in the Labcycling area of the show.
Elsewhere, our CEO Andrew Rimmer will participate in a seminar titled ‘Transparency and Traceability: The New Deal’ on Friday, November 15, alongside Breitling Chief Sustainability Officer Aurélia Figueroa. This panel will be moderated by journalist Benjamin Teissere of Europastar. More information on the full schedule of talks will be available via the ReLuxury website in the coming weeks.
We look forward to attending this inspiring event and examining the latest trends and anti-counterfeiting innovations in second-hand luxury. With more than 15,000 visitors predicted to attend, this is likely to be indicative of a new movement in luxury, pre-owned goods.
